Hoof Prints on the Path

One night, I had a dream.
I dreamed that I was walking along a forest path with Leaf.
Across the path flashed scenes from our lives. For each scene, I noticed
my footprints and beside them were hoof prints from Leaf.

When the last scene of our lives flashed before me, I looked
back at the prints along the pathway. I noticed that many times
along the way, there were only one set of hoof
prints… those of Leaf’s. I also noticed it was at the
lowest and most stressful times in my life.

This really bothered me, and I asked Leaf about it. “Leaf, when
I bought you, I promised you that I would take care of you. Yet, at my most
troubled times in life, you always walked on without me.”

Leaf replied, “My precious, precious master, I love you and I
would never leave you! During those times of trouble and suffering, when you see
only one set of hoof prints, it was then that I carried you.”

Leaf's Sons and Daughters
Busy day today.... chores, and working on fences, followed by the farrier doing some trims, then the vet out to geld my guy "CAUM Ray of Hope"! He is THE last foal, THE last son of my beloved old stud Hawkeye's Maple Leaf, who was put down in 2005 due to a twisted gut. Leaf hadn't given me a colt for over 10 years, and Ray was born in 2006. I had "lost hope" when I lost Leaf.... and "Ray" was my gift from my old friend and beloved stud to say there was still HOPE so don't give up! I have kept Ray with the thought he could replace his daddy... but alas, he is slight of frame, and a little weak in the hind quarters to where I couldn't justify keeping him as a stud. My sister Terri fell in love with him when she was over here last, and since I was gelding him she asked if she could buy him. I am so happy to keep him in the family! I knew he would have to "walk on water" to ever replace Leaf, so this now takes
the pressure off of him! He will forever be a "Ray of Hope" to me, and a reminder of my best friend, "Leaf"! The gelding went fine, he will soon forget about the girls, learn to relax, and be a happy horse! My little Ray ... !!
